SISTER MICHELLE

ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER

2009 SCHOLARSHIP DINNER

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP DINNER

“This is what Yahweh asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

Sister Michelle Toctrop, CSJ is the 2nd grade teacher and former principal (1983-1994) at St. Joseph School in Santa Ana.  Sister Michelle is a tireless advocate for the poor and for our Catholic schools in Santa Ana.  In 1994, the St. Joseph School parents searched for the right way to thank Sister for her many years of service. The scholarship dinner was born when Sister Michelle let it be known that she would only approve of the celebration if it created ways to help those students and families that desired a Catholic school education, but could not afford the full cost of tuition.  Now in its 16th year, this event has raised over $275,000 to help families with tuition assistance.

20008 LIGHT THE WAY MASS

Project SUCCESS hosted its second annual “Light the Way” Mass on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Santa Ana.   The Mass was attended by over 500 people, and was followed by a reception in the parish hall. Students from our four Project SUCCESS schools participated in the Mass as lectors and altar servers, as well as in our Project SUCCESS choir led by Ms. Jean Bullock.

Bishop Dominic Luong co-celebrated the Mass with the pastors and priests from St. Joseph, St. Anne, Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Barbara Churches, in Santa Ana.  Father Gerald Horan, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Orange, was the homilist.  He emphasized the history of our Catholic schools and the important role they play in our communities today.

The Project SUCCESS Alumni of the Year Award for 2008 was presented to Maurice and Teri Sanchez.  Both Maurice and Teri are proud graduates of our Santa Ana Catholic schools.  Maurice is a graduate of Our Lady of the Pillar School, and Teri is a graduate of St. Joseph School.  Both also went on to graduate from Mater Dei High School.  Maurice and Teri have served on our Project SUCCESS Board for the past several years and continue to help our schools proclaim the “good news” of Catholic education.

Meet and Greet Events

We welcome the opportunity to tell our story. Members of our Project SUCCESS Committee will be happy to speak to groups about our students and schools, the challenges facing our Catholic schools, and the work of Project SUCCESS. You can help us share our message by hosting a "Meet and Greet" where you invite friends and family to your home or other location and allow us to explain how to help our schools.

"(Catholic education) is an outstanding apostolate of hope, seeking to address the material, intellectual and spiritual needs of over three million children and students [in the United States]. It also provides a highly commendable opportunity for the entire Catholic community to contribute generously to the financial needs of our institutions. Their long-term sustainability must be assured." Pope Benedict XVI
